Kathy Boyd's GardenI love gardening!! Our yard has always given us a challenge because there are so many trees. (at least 70+ on a little less that an acre) For that reason, we use perennials which have color and textures. We plug in caladium and impatiens for colors which I can't get with the other plants. I love any type of shade loving perennial with variegation. Some of my favorite plants are hostas, coral bells, hydrangea, perennial begonia, dogwoods, caladiums, and of course impatiens! To keep the deer away from most of my plants, I time the sprinkler system to come on around 3:30 a.m. That seems to do the job. I always look at the plant material at Wal-Mart, Home Depot, and Lowe's. Right off the truck, anything from there seems to do fine. Favorite places to shop: Wine Country Gardens, Wiethop, Wal-Mart Tips: I take the variegated vinca out of my flower pots in the fall and overwinter them in the ground. Then in the spring I dig them up and reuse them in all my pots. They do great and I don't have to buy them every year.
